Bandung / Sirap Bandung | Street Food Around The World (Drinks)

February 17, 2014 By

Sirap Bandung

Summer is not too long and I already started some drinks to feed my blog. A sweet drink is always loved with a spicy meal and I love to have milk based chilled drink a lot . As a kid I used to enjoy rose milk in hot summer  days in India and I was so glad to make them again. For this weeks BM street food around the world I thought It would be perfect if I make all the street drinks which are popular in some countries so the first think came to mind is to make this delicious drink from Malaysia and Singapore. This is not a very different drink but our very own Rose milk which is prepared in India but a very popular drink in Malaysia. Check out the Blogging Marathon page for the other Blogging Marathoners doing BM#37.

Bandung is a famous Malaysian  beverage which is prepared for a meal and also are most favorite among street vendors. This is an rose syrup or essence infused drink which tastes same as our rose milk in India but with a little difference in the recipe. For this recipe you can even use evaporated milk and rose essence instead of rose syrup. As the vendors in Malaysia add pink color and add rose water but instead I used Rose syrup or rooafazha for this recipe.

Rose Milk

Sirap Bandung

Ingredients

1/2 Tin or 1/2 cup Condensed Milk
3 Tbsp sugar
1 cup water
2 tbsp Rose syrup
Ice cubes – few

Method

  • Boil the sugar and a 1/2 cup water together until the sugar dissolves. This syrup is called simple syrup
  • In a blender add condensed milk , remaining water (preferably chilled), simple syrup, rose syrup and few ice cubes.
  • Pulse them in the blender for few seconds and serve them chilled .
