Monster’s University Sullivan cake | Sally Cake | Monster’s University Cake

April 16, 2015 By

Monsters University Inc

This cake is so special and close to my heart as I made this cake for my angel last year when she turned 4 yrs old. Time flies it was just when my little angel arrived and showered so much happiness in our life and here she is turned 4 already. My H don’t want her to grow up so soon 😛 she just want to mute her growth lol which is impossible I know . She is more papa’s girl and I love to see them together , I miss my pa too some time when I see them. My pa was the same but we loose people in life so soon and it becomes a pained memory which should not happen to any daughters as they are more affectionate with their father. So I made this cake on my daughters request, she is a great fan of Master’s university . She have seen the movie more than 25 times and she loves Jame P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski a lot from the movie. she wanted me to carve any one of the character cake for her special day and How can I say no to my lil one. I just baked this cake when she was napping and after she woke up  this was her surprise for her special day.. She just love it a lot  and gave me lots of hugs and kisses . Now moving on to my first ever character cake.

MU Sullivan Cake

                                         Category   Preparation time     Cook Time
                                       Cake
            30 mins
 30-40 mins
  Ingredients

  All Purpose Flour – 1 1/2 cups
  Cocoa powder – 1/3 cup
  Baking soda – 1 tsp
  Salt – 1/2 tsp
  Sugar – 3/4 cup
  Vegetable oil -1/2 cup
Cold water or brewed coffee – 1 cup
  Vanilla extract – 1 cup
Apple cider vinegar – 2 tbsp
Butter cream Frosting – 4 cups ( tinted blue)
  White chocolate – 1 cup
Black candy melts – 1/2 cup
Red candy melts – 1/4 cup
Note : If you don’t get candy melts just use white chocolate and tint food color.

  Method
  • Grease two cake pan I took 6 ” and 8 ” pan.  Preheat oven to 375°F. Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, sugar and salt.
  •  In a large measuring jug, mix together all liquid ingredients except for the vinegar.
  • Add the wet to the dry ingredients and stir until smooth.
  • Add the vinegar and stir until even distributed throughout the batter.
  • Pour the batter in the cake pans and tap to remove any air bubbles. I had some leftover batter so I pour them in the cake pop mold to make eye and nose for sally.
  • Bake them at 350 F for 30 – 45 mins . The cakes in cake pop mold cooks soon about 10 -15 mins. Test if the cake is done by inserting tooth pick if it comes out clean then the cake is done.
  • Cool the cake for 5 mins then invert the cake on a wire rack.
  • Cool the cake completely , I covered them with cling wrap and refrigerated for 1/2 hour.
  • Carve the 6 inch cake to fit the 8 inch make it crescent shape
  • With the leftover cake from the carved part make two horns.
  • For eyes and horns melt white chocolate and dip the cake pops completely use a fork , keep them on a parchment paper to dry.
  • Place the cake to make sally’s face cover the cake with butter cream frosting giving it a crumb coat . Place the eyes , nose and use a tooth pick to fix the horns.
  • Cover the nose with butter cream too, in a piping bag fill butter cream frosting use a flower nozzle to make the spikes which will looks like sally’s hair. Using a round nozzle make a big mouth for sally.
  • I used melted white chocolate to make his teeth , red for his tongue.
  • For detailing his eye pipe some blue butter cream then white chocolate and use a skewer to make his eye .
  • Sally cake is ready you can give more detailing to this cake in fondant too.
